London Brewery Experience - Islington
Experience Day
Brewery Experience Days: London lovers of all things beer related, this is the perfect
experience gift for you! You’ll go to the Islington Brewhouse and
Kitchen and spend a full day learning exactly what’s involved in
the brewing process, from barley to bottle. This is a great
behind-the scenes look at the brewing process that makes the
perfect gift for anyone who’s fond of a crisp, cold pint, and would
like to know a little more about what makes beer so, so good…
The day starts with a (non-alcoholic) drink – it’s only 10am after
all! Your expert brewers will introduce you to the brewery and the
day, then you’ll get to work by starting the mash in – the first
step in the brewing process, where the grains are put into a big
mash tun with hot water to allow the starches to break down. Once
you’ve started this, you’ll break for a well deserved bacon
sandwich while the brewers explain a little more about what mashing
in actually does. The next steps you’ll complete are transferring,
re-circing and sparging. No idea what this all means? Don’t worry,
your instructor will explain everything on the day! Once you’ve
started the boil and added hops, it’s time to break for lunch in
the pub. After lunch you’ll add more hops and kettle finings (for
clarifying the beer), then you’ll transfer the mixture to the
fermenter, where it stays until it’s at the right stage for
drinking. You’ll have the chance to taste a range of beers
throughout the day, and need not worry about having a dry glass, at
any stage!
Upon leaving, you will receive a certificate and a 5L mini-keg
of brewed beer (valued at £25) to take home on the day.
Alternatively if you would like to take your own brewed beer home,
then the beer will need time to ferment so the keg will be ready
for collection 2 weeks after the experience day.
This full day London brewery experience is a fun and informative
introduction to the brewing process, and makes an ideal experience
gift for anyone who loves the sweet amber nectar and would like to
learn a little more about it, or anyone who harbours dreams of
doing some home brewing themselves.
